This sausage pasta sauce is very easy to make and is absolutely delicious. It is hearty and satisfying and doesn’t require very many ingredients.
You can use mild or hot sausage meat for this recipe depending on your preference. I personally like using spicy. Please note that we will not be adding extra salt to this sauce as the sausage has plenty salt already.
This sausage pasta sauce goes beautifully with any type of pasta you like. Spaghetti is one of them. Serve it with small salad and a piece of garlic bread on the side.
Here is what you are going to need for this wonderful sausage pasta sauce:
1 lb. ground sausage meat preferably Italian
1 yellow onion chopped
4 large garlic cloves, minced
2- 15 oz. cans crushed tomatoes
6 large white mushrooms, sliced
2 teaspoons dried oregano
2 teaspoons dried basil
Coat bottom of pan with olive oil and heat. Add sausage and brown. Drain in a colander inside a bowl and discard the rendered liquid.
Wipe skillet and add more olive oil. Heat. Add onion and brown. Add the garlic and mix. Cook for 1 to 2 minutes until you can smell the garlic. Add the sausage and mix well.
Add the crushed tomatoes, the mushrooms, the basil and the oregano. Mix well. Bring pan to a boil. Cover, lower heat and simmer for 2 hours stirring occasionally.
Serve on your pasta of preference.
