How about a nice bowl of French onion soup tonight? It is super easy to make and packed with flavor! Here is what you are going to need for 4 scrumptious bowls:
2 large yellow onions, sliced (about 4 cups)
1/2 stick butter
1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves
1 teaspoon granulated sugar
6 cups beef broth
2 bay leaves
4 thick slices baguette
1 oz. Gruyere cheese, grated
Melt the butter in a heavy pot. Add the onions and the thyme leaves. Cook, at medium heat, for 35 to 40 minutes – until onions are dark brown and caramelized. Add the sugar and mix well.

Add the beef broth and the bay leaves. Cook for 15 minutes. Remove bay leaves. Place a piece of bread into each bowl. Ladle soup into each bowl. Top with 1/4 of the grated cheese. Place the bowls on a baking pan and broil for up to 5 minutes, until cheese is melted and slightly browned. Serve and enjoy!
