Baked Sweet Potato Fries

Cajun Style Sweet Potato Fries pg-180 (3)

We are going to make these baked sweet potato fries Cajun style by adding all sorts of spices to them which will make them very flavorful. You can make this recipe without the cayenne and Tabasco if you do not eat spicy food.

Sweet potatoes are loaded with Vitamin A, C, E and K among others. They are a great alternative to potatoes and this particular recipe is loaded with flavor. They are spicy and a great addition to any meal you want. You will be making a paste that will coat the ‘fries’.

In this video I used my hands but I must warn you that you will be handling cayenne and Tabasco. If you have sensitive skin this might not be a good idea. As an option you can place them in a bag – working in batches – add some of the paste and roll them in the bag. You can also use gloves.

Here is what you are going to need for these delicious baked sweet potato fries:

8 small sweet potatoes – scrubbed clean and cut into long pieces
1 tsp. dried oregano
1 tsp. dried thyme
1 tsp. garlic powder
1/2 tsp. onion powder
1/2 tsp. cayenne
1 tsp. paprika
1 tsp. sugar
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. black pepper
1/2 tsp. Tabasco
2 TBS olive oil

Heat the oven to 400 degrees.

Place all the spices in a bowl. Add the oil and mix well to form a paste. Place the paste on the sweet potatoes and coat evenly.

Place the coated sweet potato fries – on an oiled baking sheet – in a single layer. You can line the sheet with aluminum foil if you want to keep things clean. Roast the sweet potatoes for 20 to 25 minutes, flipping them in the middle of the process. Serve and enjoy!
