Cajun Shrimp Recipe

IMG_4570

This Cajun shrimp recipe is very easy to make. The shrimp is juicy and spicy. This is a great appetizer or light meal. You can serve it with salad or pasta if you like.

We are going to make our spice blend by mixing a series of spices that we will coat the shrimp in before cooking it. In the video I made enough for 2 pounds of shrimp but only cooked one and kept the half of the spices in a closed container in a dark place.

It is important that you clean the shrimp thoroughly before you make this recipe (or any recipe with shrimp for that matter). Take the time to devein it by removing the black vein that runs along the back of the shrimp. This is the intestine and it is gritty and does not taste well.

One last recommendation is that you do not over cook the shrimp. It will be ready in about 4 minutes. Overcooking it will make it taste like rubber. So please be careful.

This is what you are going to need for this delicious Cajun shrimp recipe:

Serves eight
2 pounds peeled and deveined shrimp
1 ½ TBS paprika
1 tsp. cayenne pepper
1 tsp. garlic powder
½ tsp. onion powder
½ tsp. black pepper
1 tsp. salt
½ tsp. dried thyme
2 TBS unsalted butter + 2 tsp. oil
6 garlic cloves – minced

Mix the paprika, cayenne, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, salt and thyme in a bowl.

Place the cleaned shrimp in a bowl and add the spices. Toss well to coat all the shrimp.

Melt the butter with the oil in a large skillet. Add the shrimp and cook until the bottom turns a dark pink/salmon color. Flip and finish cooking until you no longer have any opaque. This should take around 4 minutes total. Remove from heat and serve.
