This jello shot recipe is made with vodka. It is fun and easy and great for parties. We are going to make them in orange cups so that they look super cute.
Two things are important for this to work. One is that you do not pierce the orange skin when you are removing the fruit. If you do the jello will seep out of it and make a mess. So please make sure you do not use any punctured peels.
Secondly, once you have placed them in the shallow dish where they will set make sure that they are level. If they are slanted they will favor one side and the other one will have a lot of extra peel that you will have to carve off.
You can use any flavor gelatin you want for this recipe. These are especially beautiful with red and bright green. I tried to make black gelatin by mixing orange and grape flavor but it did not work. Instead I got beautiful amber.
This is what you are going to need to make this delicious jello shot recipe:
Makes 32 shots
4 medium oranges – scrubbed and cut in half
4 oz. (8 TBS or ½ cup) of the flavor Jell-O of your choice
8 oz. (1 cup) boiling water
½ cup (4 oz./ 120 ml) cold water
½ cup (8 oz./ 120 ml) vodka
Carefully remove the fruit from inside the orange half. You can do this by inserting a small sharp knife on the sides of the orange and separating the fruit. Be patient and make sure not to puncture the peel. You want to have a small cup that is clean in the inside.
Once the fruit is separated from the skin carefully pry it out with a small spoon. You will have a small stem inside the cup. Cut it off with some scissors without making any holes. If you do make a hole by accident cut the small stem off the fruit and plug the hole with it.
Place the clean orange cups in a shallow dish making sure they are standing leveled and will not fall.
Mix the jello with the boiling water and stir until it is all dissolved. Add the cold water and vodka. Stir in well.
Slowly pour the jello into the orange cups – again making sure that they are all leveled. Place the dish in the refrigerator and allow the jello to set.
Remove the oranges from the fridge when they are ready and cut them in half. Trim any excess peel that you might have on the sides and cut them in half again.
