This honey garlic shrimp recipe is incredibly easy and it packs a whole lot of flavor. This is a great weeknight meal that you can prepare in less than an hour. The longest step is marinating the shrimp in the honey, garlic and ginger sauce. After that is done your meal will be ready very quickly!
The most important advice I can give you when cooking shrimp is that you do not overcook it. Overcooking will ruin it and make it rubbery. Keep an eye on it. When it turns from opaque to dark pink/salmon it is ready and you should remove it from the heat.
Another important thing is that you make sure the shrimp you are serving is cleaned. Remove the black vein that runs along the back. This is the shrimps intestine and tastes bad and gritty. There is nothing more anti-climatic than biting into a luscious, plump piece of shrimp and tasting the black vein. Don’t skip this step.
You can serve these as an appetizer is you would like or with rice on the side as a main meal. Delish!
This is what you are going to need to make this easy and quick honey garlic shrimp recipe:
Serves four
1 pound shrimp – shelled, deveined and rinsed
1/3 cup honey
1/4 cup soy sauce
1 TBS minced, fresh garlic cloves (about 4 large)
1 tsp. minced ginger
Oil for cooking
Chopped scallion greens for garnish
Mix the honey, soy sauce, garlic and ginger.
Pour half of the marinade over the shrimp, making sure to coat all of it. Cover and refrigerate for a minimum of 30 minutes or a maximum of 2 hours.
Heat a skillet with a little bit of oil.
Add the shrimp, without over crowding the pan. Cook one side and flip it when the shrimp has changed color. Pour the rest of the marinade over the shrimp and finish cooking by flipping the shrimp a couple more times and allowing the honey to caramelize. Remove from heat and garnish with chopped scallion greens.
Serve and enjoy!
