Today we are going to make a Caipirinha with Cachaca. This is a Brazilian cocktail that can be made with a variety of fruit flavors. We will stick to the original and make it with lime.
Cachaca is a cane sugar liquor that is very strong. I urge you to be careful with this and use it responsibly! If you cannot find Cachaca to make this Caipirinha you can substitute with light rum. You can also use vodka and make it a Caipiroska.
Caipirinha literally means young country girl. It is believed that this cocktail was created in cane sugar plantations all the way back in the 1500’s. Caipirinha with Cachaca can also be made with mango, pineapple, blueberries, berries, fig and cucumber and jalapeño among other things.
This is what you will need to make these Caipirinha with Cachaca cocktails:
2 teaspoons sugar (more for sweeter)
1 1/2 oz cachaça (sugar cane liquor)
Cut the lime into 8 wedges and place them in a glass.
Add the sugar and muddle until all the juice is released and mixed with the sugar.
Add some ice cubed to the glass.
Pour the Cachaça over the ice and mix. Enjoy responsibly!
NOTE – you can substitute Cachaça for light rum or use vodka and make a caipiroska.
