Air Fryer Breaded Shrimp

This recipe for air fryer breaded shrimp couldn’t be easier. You will have dinner ready within 8 to 10 minutes.

Two very important things to keep in consideration when cooking shrimp. The first is to make sure it is deveined. Shrimp have a black vein that runs down their back. This is their intestine and it is full of poop. If you do not remove it your shrimp will be gritty and it will change the flavor. You can learn how to do it here.

Secondly, keep in mind that shrimp cooks very quickly. If you over cook it you will end up with rubbery shrimp. This recipe will be ready in maximum 10 minutes. 4 minutes per side is usually all it takes.

I used Panko for the bread crumbs for this recipe. Panko is Japanese and it is coarser than regular bread crumbs. However, you can use any bread crumbs that you have.

Air Fryer Breaded Shrimp
Serves four
1 pound shrimp — peeled and deveined
2 eggs
1 cup flour
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon powdered chili (optional)
1 cup breadcrumbs (I use Panko)
Salt & Pepper

Preheat the air fryer at 400F (204 C) for 5 minutes.

Beat the eggs in a shallow dish.

Mix the flour with salt, pepper, garlic powder, paprika and chili powder (if using), in a shallow dish.

Mix the breadcrumbs with some salt and pepper in a shallow dish.

Place the shrimp in the flour and coat well. Shake off all excess.

Place the coated shrimp into the egg. Shake off excess.

Place the coated shrimp into the breadcrumbs and make sure to coat well. Place the shrimp on a plate and continue with the rest.

Lower the heat of the air fryer to 370F (188 C).

Place the shrimp inside the basket, in a single layer. Do not overcrowd the basket for crispy, delicious shrimp. You do not need to spray it with extra oil.

Cook for 4 minutes. Open the basket and carefully flip.

Cook for another 4 minutes and remove. If necessary, cook for a minute or two more.

Serve with bang bang and tartar sauce.
