How to Make Meatball Subs

Meatball Sub

Meatball subs are really good! We used to sell tons of them at the deli. For this recipe you will need meatballs in marinara sauce, Provolone cheese and shredded Parmesan cheese. You will need a 5 to 6 inch piece of French baguette bread as well. This is a great way to use left over meatballs in marinara sauce!

Meatball Sub Sandwich

Ingredients:

  • 1 loaf of bread
  • 2-3 slices of Provolone cheese
  • Meatballs (pre-cooked or store-bought)
  • Marinara sauce
  • Grated Parmesan cheese
  • Fresh basil leaves (optional)
  • French fries (optional, for serving)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Prepare the Bread:
    • Cut the loaf of bread in the middle, but do not cut completely through. This will create a pocket for the filling.
  3. Add Provolone Cheese:
    • Place 2 to 3 slices of Provolone cheese inside the bread pocket.
  4. Toast the Bread:
    • Place the bread with the cheese in the preheated oven.
    • Toast until the cheese melts and the bread is slightly crispy.
  5. Add Meatballs and Marinara:
    • Remove the bread from the oven.
    • Fill the bread with meatballs and marinara sauce.
  6. Broil with Parmesan Cheese:
    • Turn the oven to broil.
    • Cover the meatballs with grated Parmesan cheese.
    • Place the sandwich under the broiler for a couple of minutes until the Parmesan melts.
  7. Garnish and Serve:
    • If desired, garnish the sub with fresh basil leaves.
    • Serve with French fries on the side.
    • Enjoy your delicious meatball sub sandwich!
