How to Make Steamed Quinoa

Quinoa is one of the most nutritious foods one can eat. It is rich in protein, containing all 9 essential amino acids the body needs. It also contains iron, calcium, potassium, zinc, vitamin E, selenium, manganese and magnesium – among others. Quinoa also happens to be a great side dish for just about everything! Luckily, it is more and more available world-wide!
You need to wash quinoa very well. It needs to be rinsed numerous times in order to loose it’s bitterness. You can also soak it for 15 minutes, if you would prefer. Here is what you are going to need for 4 sides:
1 cup quinoa – thoroughly rinsed or soaked for 15 minutes
1 1/2 cups water
Olive oil
Salt
Add some olive oil to a pot and heat. Squeeze the excess liquid from the quinoa and add to the pot. Saute the quinoa for 4 to 5 minutes until lightly browned.
Add the water and season with salt. Bring to a boil and cover. Reduce heat and steam for 15 to 17 minutes, until water is evaporated and quinoa is cooked through. Serve.
