Red Wine Sangria

This red wine sangria is warm. It is a mulled red wine punch that is made with an infused syrup with orange peel, cinnamon stick, whole cloves, allspice and nutmeg. We are going to simmer the syrup for about 10 minutes, strain it and add the red wine.

The type of red wine you use does not matter. What matters is that you do not boil it. All you have to do is mix it well with the syrup and then warm it up. Keep it warm and serve it directly from the pot.

We are going to serve this red wine sangria in glasses filled with orange segments. Please make sure to remove the white membrane from the fruit as it can be bitter.

This is what you are going to need to make this delicious and satisfying warm red wine sangria:

Serves four
1 orange – peeled and segmented (keep the peel)
¼ cup sugar
1 ½ cups water
1 cinnamon stick
¼ tsp. nutmeg
¼ tsp. allspice
10 whole cloves
500 ml. (2 cups) of red wine

Place the orange peel in a pot with the water, sugar, cinnamon, cloves, allspice and nutmeg. Stir until the sugar dissolves. Simmer for 10 minutes and strain. Place the syrup back into the pot.

Add the wine and mix. Warm the wine – do not boil it or simmer. Simply warm it.

Serve the warm red wine in heatproof glasses with orange segments. Enjoy.
