How to Make Air Fryer Brownies
Let’s make some brownies in the air fryer today. This is a very easy recipe that I know you will love.
An air fryer can indeed be used as a compact, efficient alternative to an oven, especially for small-batch cooking. The primary way an air fryer functions similarly to an oven is through its convection technology, which circulates hot air around the food. This process is akin to a convection oven but on a smaller scale and with faster results due to the more concentrated heat and quicker air circulation.
Here are some key ways in which an air fryer can replicate oven cooking:
Baking: Air fryers are great for baking small quantities of items like cookies, muffins, and cakes. The even heat distribution helps achieve a good rise and a nice, golden finish. You can use small baking pans or silicone molds that fit within the air fryer basket.
Roasting: Just like in an oven, you can roast vegetables, meats, and even whole small chickens in an air fryer. The circulating hot air ensures that the exterior of the food becomes crispy while the inside remains tender.
Reheating: Air fryers can also be used to reheat leftovers, often more effectively than a traditional oven because the high-speed air circulation revives the crispiness of fried or baked items without making them soggy.
Toasting and Broiling: You can toast bread, bagels, or nuts and even broil dishes with cheese toppings. The high heat and direct air flow help achieve a crisp, browned surface.
Energy Efficiency: Air fryers heat up quickly and use less energy than a full-sized oven. This makes them an eco-friendly choice, especially for small households or quick meals.
Space-Saving: For those with limited kitchen space, an air fryer can serve as a multifunctional appliance, reducing the need for a separate oven.
While an air fryer may not replace an oven entirely for all types of cooking—such as large roasts or baking multiple trays of cookies—it is a versatile tool that can mimic many oven functions with the added benefit of speed and convenience.
Air Fryer Brownies
Ingredients:
1/2 cup (113 grams) unsalted butter
1 oz (29 grams) unsweetened chocolate
1/3 cup (45 grams) all-purpose flour
2/3 cup (65 grams) unsweetened dark cocoa powder
1/2 cup (100 grams) brown sugar
1/2 cup (100 grams) white sugar
1/4 teaspoon (1.5 grams) salt
1/4 teaspoon (1.2 grams) baking powder
2 eggs, at room temperature
1 teaspoon (5 ml) vanilla extract
Equipment:
6-inch (15 cm) or 7-inch (18 cm) cake pan OR 12 2-inch (5 cm) silicone mini muffin cups
Instructions:
Melt Butter and Chocolate:
Place the butter and unsweetened chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl.
Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring between each interval, until melted (about 1 minute total).
Alternatively, melt them in a double boiler.
Set aside to cool.
Mix Dry Ingredients:
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, brown sugar, white sugar, salt, and baking powder.
Ensure there are no clumps, especially in the brown sugar.
Combine Wet Ingredients:
Once the melted butter and chocolate mixture has cooled, add the eggs and vanilla extract.
Beat well until fully combined.
Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients:
Pour the wet mixture into the bowl with the dry ingredients.
Stir until just combined; avoid over-mixing to ensure a tender brownie texture.
Preheat Air Fryer:
Preheat your air fryer to 310°F (158°C).
Bake the Brownies:
Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan or distribute it evenly among the silicone muffin cups.
Place the molds or pan into the air fryer basket, ensuring they are not overcrowded. You may need to work in batches.
Cook at 310°F (158°C) for 10 to 12 minutes. Check the brownies at the 10-minute mark by inserting a toothpick into the center. If it comes out clean or with a few crumbs, they are done. If wet batter sticks to the toothpick, cook for an additional 2 minutes.
Cool and Serve:
Remove the brownies from the air fryer and place them on a cooling rack.
Allow them to cool completely before removing them from the molds or pan.
Enjoy!
