How to Make Homemade Pizza Sauce

Pizza Sauce on Dough

Homemade pizza sauce adds a fresh and flavorful touch to homemade pizzas, offering a vibrant base that enhances the overall taste of the pizza toppings and crust.

To create a delicious homemade pizza sauce, start with high-quality canned or fresh tomatoes. Crushed tomatoes or tomato puree work well as the base. Simmer the tomatoes with olive oil, minced garlic, and a blend of Italian herbs such as oregano, basil, and thyme. Season with salt, pepper, and a pinch of sugar to balance the acidity of the tomatoes.

For a richer flavor, you can add finely chopped onions or a splash of red wine. Let the sauce simmer gently to allow the flavors to meld together, stirring occasionally.

Once cooked to your desired thickness, let the sauce cool slightly before spreading it over your pizza dough. This sauce pairs perfectly with a variety of toppings, from classic mozzarella and pepperoni to gourmet combinations with vegetables, meats, or even seafood.

Homemade pizza sauce not only allows you to control the quality of ingredients but also adds a personal touch to your pizza creations, making each slice a delicious homemade delight.
