How to Have a Frugal Birthday Party
A couple of weeks ago we celebrated our twin daughter’s 12th birthday. The girls wanted to have some friends over for a pool party at our community pool. Being that things aren’t exactly prosperous these days I decided to go with the following menu which ended up really nice and didn’t put a dent in my wallet.
We had grilled hot dogs with potato chips, orange jello ‘smiles’, fruit salad, rice crispy treats and a cup cake tower for each of the girls.

I made the fruit salad with the orange that I scooped out of the peels for the ‘smiles’ and added chopped cantaloupe, chopped apple, grapes and chopped mango. I served it in plastic cups.
The cupcake towers were simply that – a tower of cupcakes which we decorated and placed in a stand. This made serving a cinch without having to use extra plates.

What I really enjoyed about this whole thing is that I didn’t have to slave in the kitchen and the kids were really happy. I made a couple big pitchers of Kool Aid and took small water bottles to the pool. It was a blast!
